Phone call between Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, COP27 President-designate, and Prince Charles Heir to the British Throne

Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry, President-designate of the 27th session of the Conference of Parties (COP27) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), has spoken with Prince Charles, Prince of Wales and Heir to the British Throne, as part of the ongoing consultations with all countries and parties on the preparations for COP27 and the World Leaders Summit on Climate Change, which will be hosted by Egypt in November 2022.
the Foreign Minister discussed during the call Egypt's vision and goals for COP27, and the efforts it is currently undertaking in the framework of its preparations to preside over the conference, including urging all states parties to upgrade their nationally determined contributions (NDCs) in accordance with the Paris Agreement and raising the ambition of their climate action with all its components, including support and finance directed to developing countries in the fields of reducing emissions and adapting to the negative impacts of climate change and building resilience.
Minister Shoukry commended the role played by the United Kingdom in the framework of its presidency of COP26, particularly the efforts exerted by Prince Charles in supporting and promoting global climate action, especially from the private sector and non-governmental organizations. The Foreign Minister also referred in particular to the Sustainable Markets Initiative launched by Prince Charles, which includes a number of major international companies.

The Foreign Minister also affirmed Egypt's aspiration to work with Prince Charles in the coming period to enhance the participation of the private sector in the global efforts to confront climate change, including during COP27 in Egypt by mobilizing support for the various sectoral initiatives that Egypt will launch during the conference, and mobilizing broad participation from all governmental and non-governmental parties to participate in its activities, as well as to participate effectively in the various thematic days of the conference.
